Fear...

Fear causes us to stumble...
Fear causes us to pretend...
Fear causes us to withdraw...
Fear causes us to be unreal...
Fear causes us to fake...
Fear causes us to be suppressive...
Fear causes us to be oppressive...
Fear causes us to be angry...
controlling...
manipulating...
cruel...
impatient...
complying...
protective...
possessive...
dominating...
shameful...
doubting...
argumental..
protesting...
yelling...
sick...
unproductive...
lifeless...
warring...
envying...
self destructive...
insecured...
uncreative..
rigid...
bound...
inexpressible...
constrained...
paralyzed...
suicidal...
...

And the only true solution to fear is...

Perfect Love!

[1 John 4:18]

Be loved! Be fearless!

Bino,

I love how it is contrasted in the scriptures, first, the works of the flesh are, up against the fruit of the spirit, is!

Bino, wonderful! And irony of ironies - why are people so afraid of perfect love??!!

Hey brother! This is so interesting! This week it seems like fear has been coming up a lot in my life! Not that I am fearful of anything, rather, it is a re-occurrence that I have been seeing in quotes, and books, and things! This is awesome Bino! I love this!

Bino,

That's an awesome list. Like Terry, I need to meditate on it...let God's love cast out my fear in some areas. I was trying to think of some more to add to your list, but I think you about covered it.

Ike, that is a great verse; reverence for God is indeed the beginning of knowledge...and wisdom (Psalm 111:10).

"True fear comes from faith; false fear comes from doubt. True fear is joined to hope, because it is born of faith, and because men hope in the God in whom they believe. False fear is joined to despair, because men fear the God in whom they have no belief. The former fear to lose him; the latter fear to find him."

Pascal, Pensées, #262.

wait a second... is fear the cause of all those things? or are all those things, the cause of fear?

(There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. - from the same chapter in 1 John...)

Just seems like it might be the other way around, since people are born naturally doing all those things, but not born with any natural fear of God, (or his punishment...)

Daniel - I am sorry, I don't think I quite understood your comment.

I don't think I understand either.

I do believe in a fear of God for the unbeliever. The unbeliever has lots to fear! And hopefully that fear leads him to Jesus Christ and the Gospel of grace! But for the believer to be afraid of God is nonsense.
